Course Details
Although Phase 1 is the foundation on which all other phonic learning rests, it is sometimes overlooked by busy practitioners. Phase 1 concentrates on developing children’s speaking and listening skills, phonological awareness and oral blending and segmenting.
The aims of the course are to develop secure phonic subject knowledge; to understand progression within Letters and Sounds and the National Curriculum; to clarify the content and
expectations of Phase 1 and share a range of activities to support each aspect; and to identify next steps for development in your own school or setting.
The course will include:
An introduction to Letters and Sounds
Key phonics terminology
An overview of progression in phonics
Phase 1 in detail: activities and resources to support each of the first 6 aspects
Looking ahead to Phase 2
Accurate pronunciation
Aspect 7: Oral blending and segmenting
Logistics and organisation
