Developing your English Curriculum: Coherence and Progression
This full day course will be an opportunity for English and writing subject leads and senior leaders to explore curriculum intent and implementation in relation to the English Curriculum, with an in-depth focus on the elements which relate to writing. The discussion will be framed around the content of the new Ofsted inspection framework. It will allow attendees to examine curriculum progression and cohesion – looking at examples of best practice, research and other useful documents. Attendees will have time to reflect on their own school curriculum and draw out the strengths and areas for development. Time will be spent action planning for dissemination of curriculum intent across your own staff.
The course will include:
An in-depth focus on progression in writing: text types, sentence-structures, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation
Curriculum mapping: planning for progression of knowledge and skills
A review of whole school approaches to presentation
A brief self-evaluation of the Reading Curriculum, considering the Ofsted reading priorities such as fluency, development of knowledge and skills and reading for pleasure
Sharing of our reflections and experience of two Ofsted inspections, trialling the new inspection framework
Implementing change: effective subject leadership
