Course Details
This course is aimed at teachers and leaders in KS2, alongside English subject leaders, who are teaching and targeting all pupils to achieve the highest standards in writing and grammar, based on strong foundational knowledge and skills, which will prepare them for the secondary curriculum.
Teachers will develop their subject knowledge of what it means to write securely and at depth at KS2, without accelerating through the curriculum. Teachers will develop their subject knowledge as the course reviews, in depth, what it means to write at the highest levels in primary: excellent text structure and organisation, vocabulary and stylistic devices, sentence structure, punctuation and authorial control. The course will also address the rigorous SPAG requirements of the National Curriculum. It will provide teachers with engaging practical and strategic approaches to developing this knowledge and these skills in pupils.
The course will include the following:
· Observations of the teaching and learning of writing in this key stage (using filmed lessons)
· Review of micro-progression in key aspects of writing
– Close review of the statutory assessment framework
– How to secure the fundamentals in each year group
– Maximising the benefit of the writing process
– How visual media can be used to create high quality outcomes
– How to scaffold learning to create low threshold high ceiling outcomes
· A wide range of practical ideas and techniques to teach the knowledge and skills required, ready for immediate implementation

· Planning, flipcharts and resources for a sample unit of work
· A range of practical ideas resources to support teacher subject knowledge and for use in the classroom
