Course Details

During this session for class teachers, subject leaders and senior leaders we will explore the main aspects involved in ensuring robust science curriculum coverage: knowledge, enquiry and working scientifically. The course aims to consider planning strategically across the whole school, specific year groups and within units, to ensure sufficient coverage at age appropriate levels. It will focus on developing aspects of subject knowledge and pedagogical practice through engaging activities and resources which can be adapted and used across units within the classroom. Delegates will also have the opportunity to progress their leadership skills and consider the intent, impact and implementation of their school’s Science curriculum. NB: Although this course is more tailored to subject leaders, class teachers would also be very welcome and would benefit.

The course will include:

Unpick the requirements of the Science programmes of study for KS1 and KS2
Develop aspects of Science subject knowledge, pedagogical practice and leadership skills
Map Science curriculum overviews considering progression of knowledge, skills, concepts, enquiry types and vocabulary
Explore engaging teaching techniques, activities and resources that ensure deep and meaningful learning
Discuss ways to monitor and assess science
Consider effective leadership and monitoring processes and practices

What you can take home:

Planning, flipcharts and resources for two sample units of work
Lots of practical and engaging activity ideas
Useful science documents
List of online resources and suggested enrichment opportunities

This course will take place on Zoom and will be 2.5 hours. Modules for self-study will be sent prior to this session.
