Beyond SPAG: Outstanding Teaching of Grammar Y1-6

The English curriculum has high expectations for grammar teaching and learning across the primary phase.  This course will support teachers in developing excellent subject knowledge.  It will look at how to plan and deliver outstanding grammar teaching as part of English lessons, as well as through  discrete grammar sessions.  Practitioners will explore progression across the KS1 and KS2, how to break ideas down simply and scaffold learning for all pupils.   It will review effective approaches to assessment.  There will be opportunities to observe and analyse several lessons to demonstrate effective delivery of grammar knowledge.   This will support pupils in achieving the highest standards in  grammar and its application in writing. 

 The course will include:

• Explore progression across the KS1 and KS2, how to break ideas down simply and scaffold learning for all pupils.
• Review effective approaches to assessment.
• Observe and analyse several lessons to demonstrate effective delivery of grammar knowledge.
