Effective Approaches to Developing Vocabulary KS1-KS2

This course will support classroom teachers and subject leaders in developing the knowledge and understanding of how to maximise vocabulary development across the curriculum. It will share best practice in the explicit teaching of vocabulary applicable across a range of subjects and will provide opportunities to observe and analyse lessons.

The course will include:
· An exploration of the research and issues surrounding the word gap and vocabulary acquisition
· The development of practical strategies and teaching approaches to use across the curriculum
· A spot light focus on vocabulary for Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Humanities
· A consideration of how whole school approaches can be implemented
· A review of implicit and explicit vocabulary teaching
