This course is designed to equip teachers, leaders, and support staff with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver high-quality handwriting instruction across all key stages. Handwriting is a fundamental skill that underpins success in the wider curriculum, and this session will provide a structured approach to ensuring all pupils develop fluency, confidence, and consistency in their writing.
This course FULLY ALIGNS with the expectations of THE WRITING FRAMEWORK.
The course will include the following areas:
✏️ Observations of effective handwriting lessons and targeted interventions across different year groups.
✏️ Understanding curriculum progression—from letter formation in EYFS to fluent, joined writing in KS2.
✏️ Developing subject knowledge around print, pre-cursive and cursive writing, letter families, joins, and fluency.
✏️ Review of scaffolding, accommodations and preparation for writing to support pupils with SEND.
✏️ Using free resources from Oak National Academy to support high-quality curriculum preparation.
✏️ Sharing good practice—opportunities to discuss, reflect, and refine approaches.
This course will ensure all staff feel confident in delivering handwriting instruction that meets high expectations and supports all pupils in developing this essential skill.
